The Florida Bar’s Cybersecurity Guidance emphasizes the critical need for law firms to protect sensitive client information from cyberattacks. These hacks can expose trial strategies, trade secrets, and other confidential information saved in your environment.
The guideline, approved by the Florida Bar Board of Governors, includes Incident Response Guidelines developed by the Cybersecurity & Privacy Law Committee. These guidelines recommend comprehensive cybersecurity measures, including data mapping surveys and cybersecurity maturity assessments, to identify vulnerabilities and evaluate the adequacy of current practices.
The foundation of the recommendations is the establishment of an industry-compliant incident response plan (IRP) to ensure prompt and effective responses to cybersecurity incidents, minimizing operational disruptions and protecting client data.
Law firms are also advised to retain qualified cybersecurity experts to assist in developing and implementing these strategies.
